Step 3. Parallel lines narrow to broad. This is achieved by starting closer to the surface allowing a small amount of paint to be released then gradually releasing more paint and bringing the airbrush further away from the surface. And again keeping the airbrush moving after the paint has been stopped. Step 4. Gradual Tones. In this lesson you will learn how to make gradual tones ( also referred to as blending ) by using a left to right, right to left movement. Begin by applying an even coat in a relatively dark application by releasing a fair amount of paint, keeping about a 20mm distance from the surface. As you move further down, move further away from the surface, applying less paint and overlapping the sparay by about half as you move down the page. Applying less and less paint as you go. Try not to create a line pattern with the airbrush. Step 5.  Even Tones. Very similar technique to the excersise above, but instead of varying the flow of paint and the distance from the surface you continue with the same amounts. Remembering to overlap each stroke by about half.
